INSURED FOR ETERNITY

by Jeff Dominguez

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Nowadays, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a dramatic surge in the increase of people getting life insurance policies. Somehow, it also became a blessing for my out-of-work friends for there has also been a lot of job openings in the insurance industry to meet these demands.

If I may share, I also tried to work as an insurance agent before. Unbeknownst to many of us, I was surprised to learn that there are so many insurance products out there. Normally, the insurance products that we know of are life, health, car, and education. But when I went through the training, I learned that there’s also insurance for fire, for bank heist, travel, home, property, and even for pets!

BUT THIS IS THE QUESTION: WHY DO PEOPLE GET INSURANCE POLICIES?

In one of the sales books that I’ve studied, the author taught a very powerful sales principle: A GOOD INSURANCE SALESMAN DOESN’T SELL INSURANCE. HE SELLS PEACE OF MIND.

PEACE OF MIND.

Yes, that’s true. We may not be aware of it, but that is the real reason why we get insurance policies. We want to be secured in case of a bad or unfortunate incident. And that is a very wise thing to do. Without insurance, you will be burdened with so many payments just to recover from the incident. Insurance policies serve as a backup during these times. For example, if you have health insurance and you get terribly ill (which I pray won’t happen), the insurance plan will usually cover most, if not all, of your hospital bills (depending on the plan). But without insurance, aside from the illness, you will also suffer from the stress of thinking about how to pay your enormous hospital bills. So you see, having insurance will truly give you security and peace of mind.

NOW, I WILL PROCEED TO MY REAL POINT.

I established that insurance gives us security and peace of mind. It allows us to sleep peacefully at night knowing that if bad things happen, there’s someone out there who will help us to recover. So, if we are getting insurance policies for our health, car, houses, and pets, WHY ARE WE NOT GETTING AN INSURANCE POLICY FOR OUR ETERNAL LIFE? Isn’t it common sense that we need to secure our life after death?

To elaborate on my point, let me share with you a few truths from the Bible. We will start from the Parable of the Rich Fool. We can read his story in Luke 12:13-21.

13Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 But He said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15 And He said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of His possessions.”

16 And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’

20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

This story is a tragedy. The rich man focused so much on building his earthly wealth that he forgot to prepare for his life after death. But as I contemplate more on this story, I realized that the lesson is not just about wealth. THE REAL MESSAGE OF THIS STORY IS THAT WE SHOULD PREPARE FOR OUR ETERNAL LIFE. It is easy to distance ourselves from this man and say to ourselves that we are not greedy like him. But if we are not preparing for our life after death, then we are no different from him. The rich fool was not just condemned for his greed; he was condemned for failing to secure his eternal life.

This parable also echoes a recurring truth from the Bible: THAT WE WILL DIE AND WE DON’T KNOW WHEN.

“But all this I laid to heart, examining it all, how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are in the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, man does not know; both are before him. It is the same for all, since the same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath. This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that the same event happens to all. Also, the hearts of the children of man are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.” – Ecclesiastes 9:1-3

“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” – James 4:14

These passages state that death is a universal fate for everyone. All of us will die no matter who we are. That’s why in Ecclesiastes 7:2, the teacher states:

“It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it to heart.”

According to him, it is better to spend time in funeral services than in parties for, at the funeral, we are reminded of the fate that awaits us all. But it isn’t just about that. The real reason why he wants us to be consistently reminded of this truth is that he wants us TO PREPARE FOR IT. Being reminded of death but not doing anything to prepare for it is useless. And let me be clear: the author of Ecclesiastes is not talking about preparing for our funeral service. He is referring to our eternal destination. That is what he is teaching us to prepare for. When you die, where would your soul go? To Heaven or Hell?

If you are not yet sure, then don’t worry. This is the reason why I wrote this article. I didn’t write this to scare you, but to help you. Like I shared earlier, I tried to be an insurance agent before. Well, I didn’t become that kind of insurance agent, but I became something better: I’M AN INSURANCE AGENT FOR HEAVEN. I’m here to share with you how you can be insured for eternity. And the best part about this is that it is FREE!! Yes! This insurance policy is a gift from God!!

From this point onwards, I’m encouraging you to read carefully for this is how you can receive this precious gift.

First of all, there is bad news. The bad news is that all of us will go to hell by default. Why? Because all of us are sinners.

“For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
– Romans 3:23

“Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” – Ecclesiastes 7:20

“If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
– 1 John 1:10

And because of that, God will have to punish us with death.

“For the wages of sin is DEATH…” – Romans 6:23a

This death is not about the physical death that we are talking about so far. This death is referring to spiritual death where all of us will be separated from God forever. Since God is in heaven, then we can’t go there. We will go to the other place, hell.

BUT WAIT! THERE’S GOOD NEWS!!

Because God is loving and forgiving, He made a way for us to be saved from this punishment. He is giving us a chance to be forgiven and be reconciled with Him.

And that way is JESUS CHRIST!!

Jesus Christ is God who became human and lived amongst us. During His time here on earth about 2,000 years ago, He served a lot of people and lived a sinless life. But the true purpose of His coming is to die for our sins. Remember, death is the wages of sin. Instead of us dying, He volunteered to die in our place so that we can be set free. This is the reason why He died on the cross. He died to pay the penalty of our sins.

But it doesn’t end there!

On the third day, Jesus rose from the grave. This proves that He is truly the Son of God and that God has accepted His atoning sacrifice on our behalf. Because of this, we now have a chance to be reconciled with God!

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

SO HOW DO WE RECEIVE THIS FREE GIFT OF SALVATION?

To receive this free gift of eternal life, you just need to BELIEVE IN JESUS! Yes! That’s all you need to do!! To prove this, look at the following Bible verses:

“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son (Jesus) and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” – John 6:40

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
– John 3:17-18

“But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” – John 20:31

So as you can see, the Bible is consistent with this. The only thing we need to do to be saved is to believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. This is the reason why we worship Jesus. If not for His sacrifice on the cross, we won’t have any chance to be saved. So the question now is this:

DO YOU BELIEVE THIS OR NOT?

According to the Apostle John, God guarantees us that once we believe in Jesus, He will forgive us and we are assured of eternal life. It is truly like insurance to heaven.

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” – 1 John 5:13

As I close, I am hoping that this article has given you the hope that we have in Christ Jesus. I am an insurance agent who is sharing with you this free insurance policy to heaven. If you buy insurance for your house or car, why won’t you have one for your soul? Like I said, having insurance gives us security and peace of mind. And the best kind of security and peace of mind comes from being assured that when you die, no matter when, you know that you will go to Heaven, straight into the loving arms of God.

God Bless!! 🙂
